MLR Forestal’s bird catalog is reported in the national media
A catalog of birds produced by MLR Forestal became the focus of national press attention. The variety of species included in the catalog has attracted so much attention that in recent days articles have been published both on television and in digital media and printed newspapers.
Through monitoring carried out since 2020, the agroforestry company has identified and classified 250 species of birds; These have been included in this digital directory, which is freely available to the public. For the acceptance it has had; soon MLR Forestal will also present compilations of reptiles, amphibians and mammals.
The bird catalog seeks to fulfill an educational objective, so that the general population can better know the species of birds that exist in the country; but also, to raise awareness regarding their conservation and the protection of their habitats.
There is such a wide variety of birds on the MLR plantations because the company allocates 1,453.26 hectares exclusively to the protection of flora and fauna. These zones are called “conservation areas” and are green belts that protect water sources from erosion and stabilize the hydrological cycle. In addition, they regulate microclimates and allow biological connectivity between each farm, neighboring farms, and small remnants of forest; in this case located in the buffer zone of the Bosawas Biological Reserve.
In order to photograph other species, two cameras with motion sensors, made of waterproof and infrared material, were recently installed on MLR’s farms. These are used to take photos and videos at night, early morning and in times of low visibility.
